Summary

THE PAPER DEALS WITH THE VARIABILITY OF WETTEDNESS IN HOT ENVIRONMENTS AND WITH THE EFFECT OF ITS CHARACTERISTICS ON THE SKIN TEMPERATURE LINE. EXPERIMENTS WERE CARRIED OUT USING YOUNG MALE SUBJECTS IN A CLIMATE CHAMBER. THE AVERAGE SKIN TEMPERATURE INDICATED IN EACH ENVIRONMENT WAS EQUAL OR CLOSE. CONCLUSIONS: 1) THE WETTEDNESS VALUE IN A HIGH HUMIDITY ENVIRONMENT IS LARGER THAN THAT IN A LOW HUMIDITY ENVIRONMENT ; 2) THE EVAPORATIVE HEAT LOSS FROM THE SKIN SURFACE IS PROPORTIONAL TO THE WETTEDNESS ; AND 3) WETTEDNESS INCREASES WITH HUMIDITY.
