A centrifugal compressor cooling system using water as working fluid.

Number: pap. 1204

Author(s) : SUESS J.

Summary

This paper starts with an overview of the application of water as working fluid for vapor compression processes. In the following a new centrifugal compressor based cooling system using water as refrigerant is introduced. The working principle of the machine with a number of various operational modes gets explained and the energetic performance under these conditions is discussed. Finally, favorable applications get specified resulting in energy savings up to 80% annually compared to a state of the art HFC chiller, even if a free cooling option is available. These findings get confirmed by field test data.
