IIR document

A comparative assessment of vapour absorption, adsorption and chemical reaction heat pumps.

Summary

Amongst sorption systems, there exists a choice between several techniques: liquid absorption (lithium bromide-water or water-ammonia); adsorption (zeolite-water, zeolite-ammonia, active carbon-methanol, active carbon-ammonia) and chemical reaction (ammonia salts, metal hydrides). It is the aim of the paper to present a comparative study based first on a thermodynamical analysis of the different cycles. The possibility to operate regenerative cycles with higher efficiencies will be addressed. The possibilities and limits of these regenerative cycles are discussed on thermodynamical basis.
