Summary
THE CARNOT COP EXPRESSION FOR HEAT PUMPS OPERATING BETWEEN 4 TEMPERATURE LEVELS IS DEVELOPED FROM FIRST PRINCIPLE. THE TEMPERATURE EXPRESSIONS MAY BE USED WHENEVER THE COMPONENTS ARE ALL AT DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES. THE DERIVED CARNOT COP EXPRESSIONS FOR 4 DISCRETE TEMPERATURES BECOME IDENTICAL TO THE PUBLISHED ONES REPRESENTING 3 DISCRETE TEMPERATURES WHEN THE 2 INTERMEDIATE TEMPERATURES COALESCE INTO A SINGLE VALUE, THEREBY VALIDATING THE RESULT. A HEURISTIC APPROACH IS ADOPTED, ESPECIALLY REGARDING IMPROVEMENTS IN TEMPERATURE LIFT AND BOOST.
