A COMPARISON OF FINITE DIFFERENCE METHODS FOR PHASE-CHANGE PROBLEMS.
Author(s) : PHAM Q. T.
Summary
IN THE SOLUTION OF THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY PROBLEMS WITH CHANGE OF PHASE BY THE FINITE DIFFERENCE METHOD, THE METHODS THAT CAN BE APPLIED ARE DISTRIBUTED INTO THREE TYPES: EXPLICIT, ITERATIVE IMPLICIT AND NON-ITERATIVE IMPLICIT ENTHALPY. ITERATIVE IMPLICIT METHODS ARE GENERALIZED FOR HANDLING PROGRESSIVE PHASE-CHANGE PROBLEMS. THREE TEST PROBLEMS OF PURE COOLING, DISCRETE CHANGE OF PHASE AND PROGRESSIVE CHANGE OF PHASE (SIMILAR TO THAT OF FOOD) WERE USED IN ORDER TO COMPARE THE CALCULATION SPEED OF THESE 3 TYPES OF METHODS. PHAM'S NON-ITERATIVE IMPLICIT METHOD IS THE MOST RAPID.
