Summary

THE PAPER DESCRIBES A FIELD STUDY OF THE THERMAL ENVIRONMENTS AND OCCUPANT RESPONSES IN 10 OFFICE BUILDINGS IN THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, AND DISCUSSES IMPLICATIONS FOR FUTURE RESEARCH ON OFFICE COMFORT. THE MAJOR OBJECTIVES WERE TO: (1) DEVELOP INSTRUMENTATION, MEASUREMENT PROCEDURES, AND SURVEY TECHNIQUES TO ASSESS THERMAL COMFORT ; (2) DEVELOP A DETAILED DATA BASE ON THE THERMAL ENVIRONMENT ANDSUBJECTIVE RESPONSES OF OCCUPANTS ; (3) DOCUMENT COMFORT CONDITIONS IN THE MONITORED OFFICE ENVIRONMENTS AS COMPARED TO ASHRAE STANDARD 55-81 ; AND (4) IDENTIFY RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN PHYSICAL, PSYCHOLOGICAL, AND DEMOGRAPHIC PARAMETERS.
