A learning control method for ice thermal storage systems.

Author(s) : INOUE S., OOTSUKA O., ITO Y.

Summary

The method automatically schedules the heat pump's operation every day, based on the actual running time of the previous day without using a level sensor for measuring stored heat in the tank. It revises the schedule based on the water temperature in the storage tank and the outdoor air temperature. The local thermal load, related to the outdoor air temperature, is learned appropriately during daily operation. A system simulation program was developed. The new control method was found to reduce annual electric power consumption by approximately 2.5%.
