Summary

A mathematical model is presented to simulate the compression processes of a two-phase saturated refrigerant mixture. Factors leading to slugging are analyzed using this mathematical model. Although it is known empirically that certain types of compressors are less prone to slug than others, this slugging susceptibility difference has not been theoretically investigated and explained. The mathematical model developed is able to analytically study the effect of compressor kinematics on slugging.
