A MODIFIED ATMOSPHERE STORAGE TECHNIQUE FOR WITLOOF ROOTS (CICHORIUM INTYBUS, VAR.

Author(s) : LIPS J.

Summary

ALTHOUGH CHICORY GROWERS ALREADY EMPLOY PRECOOLING FOR IMMATURE ROOTS AND THE LONG-TERM STORAGE OF MATURE ROOTS, THEY STILL SEEK BETTER RESULTS. THIS STUDY INVESTIGATED POSSIBLE TREATMENT IN AN AIRTIGHT COLD ROOM. CONTRARY TO CA STORAGE, O2 AND CO2 ARE NOT MAINTAINED AT A CONSTANT LEVEL BUT VARY WITH THE NUMBER OF AIR CHANGES. IN SPITE OF THESE WIDE FLUCTUATIONS, VERY GOOD ROOT FORCING RESULTS WERE OBTAINED.
