A new force in Europe.
Type of article: Article
Summary
The Association of European Refrigeration Compressor Manufacturers, ASERCOM, has been formed to tackle necessary changes on a Europe wide basis. Three working groups have been set up to date: environmental protection and new refrigerants, standards and rating conditions, and information. The first has made recommendations on the use of R134a and on replacements for R502. The blends, R50, R70 and R62 have been short-listed as similar in character using the same circuit components. R60, R61 and R40 are also being considered. For other purposes it is suggested that propane and ammonia may be used. Retrofitting is advised against for leakproof CFC systems. Guidelines will be issued. Standards for safety, compressor ratings, handling of refrigerants and the competence of technicians are also subjects of concern. D.W.H.
