Summary

VARIOUS DEVELOPMENTS IN NH3/WATER ABSORPTION CYCLES GIVE INCREASED COP IN BOTH HEATING AND COOLING MODES, MAKING THIS SYSTEM A PRACTICAL COMPETITOR FOR BUILDING SERVICES. MOST OF THE DEVELOPMENTS INVOLVE THE USE OF SOME OF THE HEAT OF ABSORPTION OR CONDENSATION TO PROVIDE A LOW STAGE GENERATION HEAT. THE EXTERNALHEAT REQUIREMENT IS THUS REDUCED. THE MOST EFFICIENT OF THESE SYSTEMS IS THE DOUBLE EFFECT CYCLE IN WHICH THE TWO GENERATORS OPERATE IN PARALLEL. A COOLING COP OF 1.11 AND HEATING COP OF 2.11 ARE OBTAINED. D.W.H.
