A NEW REFRIGERATION PROBLEM: MAGNETIC SHIELDING WITH HIGH CRITICAL TEMPERATURE SUPERCONDUCTING MATERIALS.
Author(s) : PAVESE F.
Summary
ONE INTERESTING APPLICATION OF THE NEW SUPERCONDUCTING MATERIALS WITH HIGH CRITICAL TEMPERATURE IS THE POSSIBILITY OF OBTAINING ELECTROMAGNETIC-SHIELDED VOLUMES USING THEIR DIAMAGNETIC PROPERTIES. THE MOST CONVENIENT USE IS FOR APPLICATIONS WHERE THE INTERNAL VOLUME STAYS AT ROOM TEMPERATURE, SUCH AS IN MEDICAL AND BIOLOGICAL APPLICATIONS. IN THESE CASES THE SIZE OF THE VOLUME MUST BE GENERALLY QUITE LARGE. THIS PLACES PROBLEMS ABOUT AN EFFICIENT REFRIGERATION OF THE SUPERCONDUCTING MATERIAL AT LIQUID NITROGEN TEMPERATURES, WHOSE SOLUTION STRICTLY DEPENDS ONTHE SOLUTIONS ADOPTED FOR OBTAINING THE CONTINUOUS LAYER OF SUPERCONDUCTING MATERIAL, NECESSARY FOR AN EFFICIENT SHIELDING.
