Summary

This study develops a control platform for an inverter-fed room air conditioner based on personal computer (PC). This PC-Based platform uses Laboratory Virtual Instrument Engineering Workbench (LabVIEW) as a monitoring kernel in PC, which can observe the experimental results immediately under different control algorithm. The developed platform system has been set up, it comprises outdoor unit, indoor unit, MCU-Based Driver, RS-232 cables, data acquisition system and MCU-Based interface card. The RS-232 cable and MCU-Based interface card are data transmitting tools between MCU-Based driver and PC. Several messages such as the T-type thermocouples temperature at specified location, fan motor speed, compressor speed and electrical expansion valve (EEV) open degree, can be collected by LabVIEW. Outdoor unit and indoor unit, which include a compressor, EEV and fan motor, are driven by MCU-Based Driver. Finally, a real case is set up to verify the effectiveness of the proposed PC-Based platform.
