Author(s) : CHEUNG K. P.

Summary

IN NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS WITH CONCRETE/STEEL CONTAINMENTS, IT IS EXPECTED THAT THESE CONTAINMENTS WILL NOT BE BREACHED IN CASE OF ACCIDENTS, THUS PREVENTING THE RELEASE OF RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS INTO THE ATMOSPHERE. A PROPOSAL TO USE OFF-SITE MOBILE PUMPS AND LIQUID-CHILLING UNITS IS PUT FORWARD TO BACK UP THE EMERGENCY HEAT-REMOVAL SYSTEMS OF NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS. THIS PROPOSAL IS MADE WITH REFERENCE TO THE PRESSURIZED WATER REACTOR. OTHER TYPES OF REACTOR CAN ALSO BE CONSIDERED.
