Summary

THE DIELECTRIC CONSTANT OF FROZEN SOILS IS SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER THAN THAT OF UNFROZEN SOILS. THE TIME-DOMAIN REFLECTOMETRY METHOD USES THIS FACT TO LOCATE A FREEZING FRONT MOVING ALONG A TRANSMISSION LINE EMBEDDED IN THE SOIL.
