A room-temperature magnetic refrigerator using heat exchange of free convection.

Author(s) : TANG Y. B., CHEN Y. G., WANG B. M., et al.

Summary

A room-temperature magnetic refrigerator using heat exchange of free convection is designed and tested. The working materials are 0.5 mm Gd sheet which is fixed in regenerative liquid (water). A rotary magnetic field of 0.78 T is applied by permanent magnets. The refrigerator produces a maximum temperature span of 6.2 K which is six times the adiabatic temperature change. The absence of friction can enhance the cooling efficiency of this refrigerator.
