THE AUTHORS SURVEY THE DEVELOPMENT OF THERMODYNAMICS FROM THE EARLIEST KNOWN CONCEPTS OF ENERGY BY GALILEO AT THE END OF THE 16TH CENTURY TOWARDS THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE SUBJECT AS IT IS UNDERSTOOD TODAY.
