Summary
DRIFT WATERDROPLETS ESCAPING THE ELIMINATOR SECTIONS OF COOLING TOWERS CAN CARRY LEGIONELLA. THE WATER MAY THEN EVAPORATE, LEAVING LEGIONELLA ORGANISMS IN THE AIR, WHICH MAY BE INHALED BY PEOPLE. ELIMINATOR EFFICIENCY IS DIFFICULT TO MEASURE AND MAY VARY WITH AIR FLOW VOLUME AND ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS. EVEN EFFICIENCIES QUOTED BY MANUFACTURERS MAY HAVE VARIABLE BASES AND ARE OFTEN NON-COMPARABLE. DRIFT TESTING CAN USE TRACER ELEMENTS, BUT THIS MEANS FIRST EMPTYING AND CLEANING SUMP AND SYSTEM OF OTHER CONTAMINANTS. TRACER MEASUREMENTS ARE USUALLY LABORATORY ANALYD D BTL THE PAPER COVERS A SIMPLE TEST METHOD USING SPECIAL FILTER PAPERS TREATED TO STAIN WITH WATER DROPLETS. A METHOD SUITABLE FOR USE IN REGULAR HEALTH AND MAINTENANCE CHECKS. D.W.H.
