Absorption-augmented engine drive refrigeration.

Author(s) : ERICKSON D. C., ANAND G.

Summary

The performance of engine drive refrigeration systems can be improved by using the engine waste heat to power an absorption system. The absorption-augmented refrigeration system can yield a 40% increase in refrigeration with no additional fuel input. Therefore, the absorption-augmented system reduces energy consumption and emissions relative to conventional electric drive. The economics are favourable at most electric/gas price ratios. Hot water co-production is also possible with a corresponding further advantage in operating economics.
