Absorption heat transfer enhancement in binary nanofluids.
Author(s) : KANG Y. T., LEE J. K., KIM B. C.
Summary
The objectives of this paper are to introduce binary nanofluids such as H2O/LiBr+nanoparticles and NH3/H2O + nanoparticles for absorption application and to give the future research direction of the binary nanofluids. This paper examines the distribution stability problem, property measurement, effects of nanoparticles on absorption heat transfer and finally provides the guidelines for design conditions for a highly effective absorber. The effect of Fe nanoparticles and carbon nanotube (CNT) on the absorption performance is studied experimentally. The concentration and constituent of nanoparticles are considered as the key parameters. It is found that the absolute value of zeta-potential can be a criterion for distribution stability for the binary nanofluids. For the H2O/LiBr nanofluids, it is found that the mass transfer enhancement is much more significant than the heat transfer enhancement in the binary nanofluids with Fe and CNT nanoparticles. For the NH3/H2O nanofluids, the absorption rate and heat transfer rate with 0.001wt% CNT particles are found to be 20% and 29.4% higher than that without nanoparticles, respectively. It is recommended that the concentration of 0.001 wt% of CNT particles be the best candidate for NH3/H2O absorption performance enhancement. It is expected that this study will contribute some basic idea to understand the heat and mass transfer enhancement mechanism in multi-components nanofluids.
