Accidents and critical situations due to unintentional escape of refrigerants.

Author(s) : LUNDE H., LORENTZEN G.

Summary

The authors present a survey of accidents in recent years in Norway involving the escape of refrigerants. A list of the accidents is provided, with details of the cause and of injuries and deaths, when there were any. Among their conclusions: ammonia is probably safer than halocarbons like R22, given the fact that the vast majority of large installations in Norway run on ammonia, yet most near-fatal accidents involved halocarbons.
