Acoustic refrigeration: a CFC alternative?

Author(s) : WORSOE-SCHMIDT P.

Summary

The major design and operational parameters of an acoustic refrigerator are identified from a closed form solution based on the "short stack" approximation. A better estimate of the performance is found by numerical integration along the stack. It is shown that due to the inherent irreversibility the designer of an acoustic refrigerator faces a conflict between the attainable refrigeration capacity and the COP of the cycle. Special consideration is given to the heat exchangers at each end of the stack.
