Summary

An adsorption-based thermal storage system is proposed for air-conditioning of electric buses, providing dehumidification and cooling. The system is modelled and dynamically simulated. To achieve a high specific cooling power and high mobile coefficient of performance, we conduct a full factorial. The resulting system design is benchmarked against a commercially available battery-driven compression chiller in a simulation study. The adsorption storage system combines a very high mobile coefficient of performance while retaining high specific cooling power. Thus, adsorption storage allows for light-weight air-conditioning of electric buses without cost-intensive, supplementary battery packs.
