Adsorption heat pump technology: possibilities and limits.

Author(s) : MEUNIER F.

Summary

Environmental considerations are going to play an important role in the choice of a refrigeration or heat pump system. Sorption technology is expected to develop since it uses benign fluids. The paper addresses the problem of the possibilities and limits of adsorption technology. A comparison with vapour compression is presented. Sorption systems are attractive in two directions. First, waste heat low-grade cycles are attractive whatever the COP of the adsorption unit. Second, high efficiency systems would be interesting to compete with vapour compression. The study shows that the conclusions depend on operating parameters and thermodynamic considerations.
