Summary

Despite their advantages it is not completely correct to refer to gas-driven VRF-systems for heating and cooling as gas heat pumps. During the heating operation the heat pump mode is frequently not activated. Manufacturers give contradictory information about the COP and unclear comments about the defrosting problem. Thanks to a current field measurement programme, existing questions will be clarified and optimisation potentials will be derived.
