Type of article: Article
Summary
The shuttle wagons carrying vehicles through the Channel tunnel have to satisfy special requirements, including full air-conditioning of the carrier wagons with the parked cars and passengers. Special factors include the carrier wagon dimensions, constraints on space, weight and energy, ambient conditions (temperatures, permanent pressure impacts), special conditions for service, safety and maintenance. Other problems can also be encountered when they are two independent air-conditioning systems per wagon with an increased air flow within a restricted space, separate make-up air system for pollutant reduction during car loading, fire barrier system for all components of the installation, part failure control, controlled distribution of energy demand peaks, remote control and remote diagnostics.
