Summary

Kinki Nippon Railway has been operating limited express trains with double decks called "VISTA" cars these 35 years. Typical technological challenge among rolling stocks with double decks is the conflict between comfort cabin space and wide duct for cooled air within restricted gauge of the car body. This has been solved on the third generation of "VISTA" cars now under operation. The results remain characteristic although the air conditioning technology used for them looks old-fashioned when compared with modern technology like inverter-driven air conditioners or control units with microcomputer.
