Air cycle refrigerating system for a continuous freezer.

Author(s) : PEARSON S. F.

Summary

Air cycle refrigerating systems are regarded as inefficient and unsuitable for most applications except those where compressed air is freely available and power consumption is of little importance. The paper shows that oil free compressors and expanders with magnetic bearings, when combined with the type of continuous freezer in which cold air can be arranged to travel in counterflow to the product being frozen, can produce efficiencies comparable to those of conventional blast freezers. The design of the air cycle refrigerated freezer proposed is very compact having neither finned air coolers nor circulating fans.
