AIR FREIGHT OF PERISHABLE PRODUCE.

Author(s) : SHARP A. K.

Summary

THE ARTICLE GIVES SOME OF THE PROBLEMS IN AIR TRANSPORT. THE MAIN PROBLEM IS THAT THE CONSIGNMENT IS IN A HIGH AMBIENT TEMPERATURE FOR MOST OF THE TIME, AND EVEN DURING FLIGHT, IT ONLY COOLS VERY SLIGHTLY. A SIMPLE MATHEMATICAL MODEL IS USED TO COMPARE THE ADVANTAGES OFFERED EITHER BY INSULATION OF THE CONTAINER OR BY PRECHILLING OF THE CONSIGNMENT OR BY COOLING WITH CO2 SNOW. A FLEXIBLE INSULATION MATERIAL WAS ALSO TESTED, HAVING THE NECESSARY PROPERTIES FOR A CONTAINER USED IN AIR TRANSPORT.
