COOLING OF PERISHABLE GOODS BY MEANS OF DRY ICE IN AIR AND LAND TRANSPORT.

Author(s) : FRANK M. A., LUCK H.

Summary

PERISHABLE GOODS ARE TRANSPORTED IN INSULATED CONTAINERS, EITHER IN SMALL MOBILE UNITS FOR READY-MADE MEALS ON-BOARD AIRCRAFTS OR IN COOLING CONTAINERS FOR AIR FREIGHT AS WELL AS IN INSULATED CAR BODIES OF LORRIES. THE COOLING BY MEANS OF DRY ICE IS ADVANTAGEOUS BECAUSE THE CONTAINERS HAVE A SUFFICIENT MOVABILITY AND NEED NOT BE CONNECTED TO A REFRIGERATOR. THE DRY ICE IS ARRANGED IN AN UPPER WELL-INSULATED COMPARTMENT AND THE COLD CO2 GAS FLOWS INTO THE INTERIOR, PRODUCING A PROTECTING ATMOSPHERE. A CONSTANT TEMPERATURE FIELD IS ACHIEVED BY USING A COOLING AGENT, CIRCULATING IN A CLOSED SYSTEM OF PIPES AND TRANSPORTING THE ABSORBED HEAT TO THE DRY ICE STORE.
