Summary
The results shown herein are based on numerical simulation of heat and fluid flow, performed by means of a computational fluid dynamics code and validated by measurements. The exploitation of the code allowed to study a large number of coil configurations and operating conditions, and to supply results from which a synthesized form was derived. This correlation, which is based on an understanding of the fluid flow derived from the simulation results, yields a better prediction of the thermal performance of this type of heat exchangers.
