Alternative refrigeration cycle based on activated carbon-carbon dioxide pair.

Author(s) : HALDER G., SARKAR S. C.

Summary

Activated carbon has an excellent gas absorption capacity and the heat of adsorption for carbon dioxide is quite high. The adiabatic desorption of the gas will generate enough cold to enable use in refrigerating applications. Therefore such a gas activated carbon system working in a pressure swing cycle can produce quite adequate refrigeration with an eco-friendly mechanism. The government of India has a plan to develop this alternative refrigeration cycle. Following the authors' design flow diagram, the system can easily be developed and it may readily replace CFC-based refrigeration systems for all purposes. The paper discusses the technical concept of the proposed alternative refrigeration cycle.
