Ammonia for air conditioning systems.
Author(s) : SEGAL J.
Type of article: Article
Summary
The use of plate heat exchangers for both evaporator and condenser considerably reduces the refrigerant charge. This factor has prompted the introduction of ammonia as the refrigerant for air-conditioning water chillers to be installed in populated areas. As these units operate with screw compressors, they are contained within acoustic cabinets which are designed also to prevent the spread of ammonia should a leak occur. In addition, an ammonia absorber can be included within the enclosure for additional safety. D.W.H.
