Summary

Airport terminals face substantial energy and environmental challenges, characterized by highly dynamic loads and wide ambient temperature ranges that conflict with China’s carbon neutrality goals. This study proposes an ejector-enhanced reversible transcritical CO2 ◦ system to deliver integrated heating and cooling. Moving beyond conventional steady-state analyses, this research establishes a full-year dynamic assessment framework encompassing energy, exergy, economic, and environmental dimensions using meteorological and load data from Ordos Airport. Energy results indicate that the proposed system achieves a 6.13% improvement in the annual coefficient of performance, with maximum seasonal efficiency gains of 6.87% in heating and 13.8% in cooling. Exergy analysis reveals a 53.2% reduction in ejector-related specific exergy destruction and an 11.4% increase in total exergy efficiency during heating. Economically, the enhanced system recovers its incremental cost within 6.97 years when electricity prices exceed 0.49 CNY/kWh for a 15-year lifespan. Environmentally, a compre hensive life cycle climate performance assessment confirms a 4.7% reduction in the total carbon footprint, amounting to 858.6 tons of CO₂ equivalent, which largely offsets the marginal embodied emissions from manufacturing. Crucially, the dynamic simulation uncovers transient reliability insights masked by static models, demonstrating that the system maintains robust capacity and stability even during extreme cold events down to -27 C and rapid summer load fluctuations. These findings verify the off-design adaptability of the ejector- enhanced system, providing a scientifically rigorous pathway for zero-carbon airport infrastructure.
