Summary

Foodborne disease data collected by three UK environmental health departments were used in this study. The data were analyzed. The results established changes in patterns of foodborne disease over time, pattern differences between UK localities and differences between areas of the UK and the USA. This type of analysis provides scientific underpinning for HACCP. The work highlights the need for a consistent procedure for collection of foodborne disease data and for a national database to facilitate analysis.
