Summary

DESCRIBES AN ISOTHERMAL CAVITY USED AS A BLACK SURFACE FOR EMISSIVITY MEASUREMENTS BY COMPARISON METHODS. THE SURFACE TEMPERATURE IS CONTROLLED BY THE SATURATION PRESSURE OF A FLUID PLACED INTO A HOLLOW SPACE SURROUNDING THE CAVITY. THE HEAT TRANSFER BETWEEN THE EXTERNAL SURFACE OF THE CAVITY AND THE FLUID IS VIA A HEAT PIPE, WHICH USES WATER AS THE WORKING FLUID, IN THE RANGE 320-380 K, AND A PHOSPHOROUS BRONZE WICK. TESTS HAVE PROVED HIGH UNIFORMITY OF THE SURFACE TEMPERATURE WITH VARIATIONS WITHIN 0.05 K. E.F.
