Summary

THE REFLUX CONDENSATION FLOW PHENOMENA IN A TWO-PHASE CLOSED THERMOSYPHON ARE INVESTIGATED EXPERIMENTALLY AND ANALYTICALLY. THE ANALYSIS PREDICTS THAT THE LIQUID-FILM THICKNESS IS INCREASED BY VAPOR SHEAR, RESULTING IN A REDUCTION OF HEAT TRANSFER COMPARED TO THAT CALCULATED FROM NUSSELT'S SOLUTION. THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS INDICATE THAT NUSSELT'S SOLUTION FOR FILM CONDENSATION CANNOT INTERPRET SATISFACTORILY THE OBSERVED TRENDS AND THAT INCLUSION OF VAPOR SHEAR EFFECTS ALONE DOES NOT RECTIFY THE DISCREPANCY.
