AN OILFREE REFRIGERATION PLANT.

Author(s) : ROMIJN J. G.

Summary

THE PRESENCE OF OIL IN AMMONIA SYSTEMS CAUSES COMPLICATIONS AND LARGE EFFICIENCY LOSSES IN HEAT EXCHANGERS. SEPARATORS ARE VERY EFFECTIVE IN REMOVING DROPLETS BUT NOT THE OIL PRESENT IN THE COMPRESSOR DISCHARGE. AN OIL SCRUBBER, PROVIDING INTENSIVE CONTACT BETWEEN THE DISCHARGE VAPOUR AND THE OILFREE LIQUID AMMONIA VIA A MULTISTAGE COUNTERFLOW SYSTEM DECREASES THE OIL CONTENT TO 0.2 PPM IN WEIGHT. THE RESULT IS A REMARKABLE INCREASE IN THE PERFORMANCE OF THE PLANT. RESULTS CONCERNING THE PERFORMANCE OF OILFREE EXCHANGERS ARE BEING OBTAINED. IN THE CASE OF ADDITIONAL INVESTMENTS, THE RECOVERY TIME IS GENERALLY A FEW MONTHS.
