An overview of the progress and the potential of thermal storage in off-peak turbine inlet cooling.

Author(s) : MACCRACKEN C. D.

Summary

Gas turbines are analogous in some ways to current jet engines, in that the lower the air temperature, the greater the mass of it can be absorbed at the same volume. Cogeneration plants can use the cold reserves accumulated in certain refrigeration installations to supply chilled air to gas turbines. Capacity can thus be increased by 20 to 25%, with a 5 to 7% improvement in performance.
