Providing cooling, heating, and electric power with gas turbine driven ammonia screw compressors.

Author(s) : RICHARDS W. V.

Summary

Natural gas will provide heating, cooling, and electric power for a large exposition facility in Chicago. Primary equipment includes three sets of 1.1-megawatt gas turbines which drive both electric motor-generators and ammonia screw compressors. Steam generated in heat recovery boilers, augmented with gas fired boilers, will be used for heating and in absorption chillers. The peak cooling load is estimated at 56,000 kilowatts. A stratified brine tank provides for 400,000 kilowatthour of cool-storage. Safety considerations are given.
