Analysis of an innovative HVAC system for a hospital.

Summary

A new HVAC system for a hospital is proposed and studied. This plant consists of an open cycle absorption system in which the exhausted and fresh air are treated by a liquid desiccant (water lithium bromide solution). In winter the system operates as an open cycle heat pump, while in summer it meets the latent loads. The proposed system is analysed and compared with a traditional plant: the primary energy saving is around 15%. The treatment of air with liquid desiccant is also useful in reducing airborne microbial contamination.
