Analysis of the solidification process in porous saturated medium.

Summary
This work presents the results of a numerical and experimental study on the solidification of a porous medium saturated with liquid. The numerical model is based upon one-dimensional formulation on the heat conduction problem with phase change. The porous medium is represented by introducing the effective thermophysical properties and the system of equations is solved by an implicit finite difference method. An experimental set-up was constructed and instrumented in order to obtain experimental results to verify the model predictions and confirm its validity. The obtained results were compared and discussed.
