ANALYTICAL MODEL OF ORIFICE PULSE-TUBE REFRIGERATOR.

Author(s) : RADEBAUGH R., STORCH P.

Summary

ORIFICE PULSE-TUBE REFRIGERATORS HAVE HIGH REFRIGERATING CAPACITIES AND CAN REACH 60 K IN A SINGLE STAGE. THE AUTHORS PRESENT AN ANALYTICAL MODEL OF THEIR BEHAVIOUR. THEY SHOW THAT THE REFRIGERATING CAPACITY IS EQUAL TO THE AVERAGE ENTHALPY FLUX AS A FUNCTION OF TIME IN THE PULSE TUBE. BY ASSUMING SINUSOIDAL BEHAVIOUR, THE WAVES CAN BE REPRESENTED BY PHASORS IN THE DOMAIN OF FREQUENCIES. THE GAS FLOW THROUGH ORIFICES CREATES PRESSURE PHASORS, TEMPERATURE AND MASS FLOW WHICH ARE USED FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE AVERAGE ENTHALPY FLUX AS A FUNCTION OF TIME. THE AUTHORS SHOW THE EFFECT OF GAS PROPERTIES, PRESSURE RATIO, PRESSURE, FREQUENCY AND LOCATION OF ORIFICES ON REFRIGERATING CAPACITY.
