INVESTIGATIONS WERE MADE ON THE COMPOSITION OF ANTIFUNGAL SUBSTANCES DETERMINING THE ACTIVITY OF PHYTOALEXINS OF APPLES. THE ACTIVITY WAS FOUND TO BE STRONGLY AFFECTED BY THE PRESENCE OF BENZOIC ACID AND OF A SUBSTANCE X, WITH STRONGER TOXICITY.
