APPLICATION OF DIRECT-CONTACT VAPOUR COOLER IN AMMONIA REFRIGERATION PLANT.

Summary

A DIRECT-CONTACT COOLER (THERMOPRESSOR) WAS USED BY THE AUTHOR S FOR: 1. DESUPERHEATING OF VAPOUR (INTERSTAGE COOLING) ; 2. COOLING OF OIL-VAPOUR MIXTURE AFTER COMPRESSION. THIS COOLER WAS STUDIED EXPERIMENTALLY AND NUMERICALLY IN THE RANGES OF EVAPORATING AND CONDENSING TEMPERATURES THAT ARE USUAL FOR INDUSTRIAL REFRIGERATION PLANTS. IN THE CASE OF THE INTERSTAGE COOLING, THE SUPERHEAT OF VAPOUR IN THE SUCTION LINE OF THE HIGH-STAGE COMPRESSOR WAS NOT MORE THAN 10 TO 18 DEG C ; THE PRESSURE RISE IN THE THERMOPRESSOR WAS NEARLY 2%. IN THE CASE OF OIL-VAPOUR MIXTURE COOLING, THE TEMPERATURE OF COOLED OIL WAS NOT MORE THAN 40 TO 50 DEG C. USING THE THERMOPRESSOR ALLOWS AN EXTREMELY INTENSIVE COOLING PROCESS TO OCCUR, THE SPECIFIC POWER CONSUMPTION TO BE REDUCED BY 2-3%, AND THE DIMENSIONS AND MASS OF COOLERS TO BE REDUCED CONSIDERABLY.
