ASSESSMENTS OF THE PERFORMANCES OF REFRIGERATION SYSTEMS.

Author(s) : TOUATI A.

Summary

THE CONCEPTION OF HIGH ENERGY REFRIGERATION SYSTEMS REQUIRES UNIFORM ASSESSMENTS OF THEIR PERFORMANCES. AT PRESENT, THE RATING PARAMETERS USED IN ASSESSING HEAT-DRIVEN SYSTEMS ARE DIFFERENT FROM THOSE USED IN ASSESSING WORK-DRIVEN REFRIGERATION SYSTEMS. THE METHOD PROPOSED IN THIS STUDY CONSISTS IN SUBDIVIDING ANY REFRIGERATION SYSTEM INTO A FORWARD WORK-PRODUCING SUBSYSTEM AND A REVERSED REFRIGERATION-PRODUCING SUBSYSTEM. COMPARING THE PERFORMANCES OF EACH OF THESE SUBSYSTEMS WITH ITS RESPECTIVE CARNOT LIMITS IN ORDER TO IDENTIFY THE CAUSES OF IRREVERSIBILITIES WILL HELP FACILITATE DESIGN IMPROVEMENTS. FURTHERMORE, THIS STUDY SHOWED THAT, IN SOME PARTICULAR CIRCUMSTANCES, THE USE OF THE COEFFICIENT OF PERFORMANCE VIOLATES THE SECOND LAW OF THERMODYNAMICS.
