Summary

The standards for the transport of perishables are prescribed in the ATP Agreement, which also specifies the ATP testing procedures for the classification of transport equipment. ATP testing has to be carried out in officially recognized ATP test stations. Some of the testing procedures that are valid for the checking of in-service transport equipment are ambiguous in their conception and so it is possible, according to the interpretation and the choice of the testing procedure, to obtain inconsistent test results. The study analyses these parts of the ATP Agreement, investigates the impact on energy consumption and on the environment, and some proposals are given.
