AUTOLOGOUS FROZEN BLOOD TRANSFUSION OF ORTHOPEDIC PATIENTS.

Summary

THIS IS TO REPORT AN EXPERIENCE OF FROZEN AUTOLOGOUS BLOOD TRANSFUSION. AUTOTRANSFUSION WAS PERFORMED ON 23 CASES OF HIP ARTHROPLASTY AND 25 CASES OF IDIOPATIC SCOLIOSIS. TOTAL AVERAGE BLOOD COLLECTION DURING THE PERIOD IS 1,200-1,600 MILLIL. RED BLOOD CELLS ARE SEPARATED FROM WHOLE BLOOD AND FROZEN WITH GLYCEROL TO 193 K (-80 DEG C). DEGLYCEROLIZATION IS DONE BY REVERSIBLE AGGLOMERATION. PATIENTS TRANSFUSED WITH FROZEN AUTOLOGOUS BLOOD ARE ALL UNEYENTFUL AND THEIR PROGNOSIS ARE ALL WELL.
