Summary
A SHORT CYCLE OF REVERSED WATER FLOW DRIVES A NYLON CLEANING BRUSH THROUGH EACH TUBE BETWEEN SKELETAL TRAPS AT EITHER END. TESTS ON A LARGE PLANT IN THE USA INDICATE THAT THE DESIGN FOULING FACTOR IS MAINTAINED WHEREAS A SIMILAR PLANT USING INTERMITTENT MANUAL TUBE CLEANING SHOWED AVERAGE FOULING INCREASED BY A FACTOR OF 10. CORRESPONDING COST SAVINGS ARE ESTIMATED AT OVER 16% WHICH SHOULD PAY FOR THE INSTALLATION COST OF THE BRUSHES AND WATER CIRCUIT REVERSAL UNIT IN ABOUT A YEAR. D.W.H.
