Summary
In this work, the operational scheme of a cryosurgical unit operating on a closed cycle for medical applications was examined. Cryosurgery is a type of surgical treatment that uses low-temperature exposure to biological tissues to destroy specific pathological areas or organs.
An analysis of existing cryogenic equipment and systems used in modern cryo-medicine for the treatment and prevention of cancer was conducted. The advantages and disadvantages of existing equipment are highlighted. The paper discusses the possibility of using a mixed, environmentally friendly refrigerant based on inert gases and hydrocarbons in a cryogenic unit.
Theoretically, environmentally clean refrigerants with zero ozone depletion potential (ODP) and low global warming potential (GWP) were calculated and practically tested. Four refrigerant mixtures were tested on a prototype setup, achieving target temperatures ranging from −156°C to −176°C, which was the primary objective of this work. Subsequent tests evaluated the mixtures with the lowest temperatures on a refrigeration performance stand.
